2. How long has Neocork been in business?
Neocork was formed in 1995 with technical and financial cooperation from some of California's leading winemakers and wineries.
3. What role did they play in the company?
They helped establish the strict criteria for which Neocork was designed and also provided a wide range of testing environments and critical analysis which allowed us to assure Neocork would perform well in a variety of bottling environments and conditions.
4. How is Neocork manufactured?
Neocork patented the co-extrusion process for our synthetic corks. Co-extrusion is a continuous online process that ensures 100% consistency. A polyethyline foam inner core is extruded in conjunction with an outer layer then cut into 43mm or 38mm length pieces. This 100% consistency ensures that every Neocork insert evenly on your bottling line and extract at consistent forces from all of your bottles. Other synthetic cork manufacturing methods are inherently inconsistent and cannot achieve this level of consistency.
5. How does Neocork manage their quality control process during manufacturing?
We believe in Quality Assurance vs quality control. Quality control is simply the process of removing poorly manufactured corks. Our patented co-extrusion process allows us to build quality "into" the manufacturing of Neocorks so that we are "assuring" good quality during the manufacturing process instead of just filtering out rejects.
6. How many customers do you have?
There are currently over 2,000 wineries in 30 countries using Neocork, including The Wine Enthusiast magazine’s 2005 Winery of the Year Award winner Don Sebastiani & Sons! Their phenomenally successful Smoking Loon brand has grown from approximately 40,000 cases a year in 2000 to nearly 2 million cases in 2007, all with an Orange Neocork!
7. What kind of wineries are Neocork's designed for?
Neocorks are designed to benefit about 90% of all wines produced, which as most wine critics agree, are those wines intended for consumption within 2-5 years of bottling.
8. Are Neocorks available in colors?
We currently have samples of Black, Purple, Yellow, Gray, White, Blue, Burgundy, and of course natural. Most of our customers currently use the natural color Neocork.
9. Can you print different colors?
Yes, with two-color printing available. Follow this link to see examples!
10. What is your coating agent?
Neocote, a proprietary dry lubricant. Allows for smooth extraction years from bottling at cold or temperate conditions
11. Will I need to make any adjustments to my corker?
Probably not. Most wineries are impressed with how compatible Neocorks are with their bottling lines and how interchangeable they are with tree-bark corks. Compared to conventional corks, Neocorks are much more consistent from unit to unit; this means that insertion depths will be much more consistent. Also, because Neocorks seal instantly, a lower vacuum is needed for a given desired headspace pressure. You will be delighted at how gentle the Neocork is on your equipment; the lack of dust and dirt, along with the supple quality of the material, results in longer corker jaw life, less machinery stress, and much lower maintenance.
