While some companies are offering cork products as an extension to their existing technical capabilities, Neocork Technologies started with a clean sheet of paper, identified the product performance criteria for an ideal cork, and then found the appropriate technology to make the product. Through extensive research, Neocork Technologies has determined that the best way to produce a cork that is both resilient and resistant to damage is a co-extrusion process that uses two different materials.
Coextrusion is a continuous process which involves tight processing parameters that allow continuous measuring and monitoring. Traditional batch processing, by contrast, attempts to isolate and remove bad products after a batch is made.
With Neocork's continuous co-extrusion process, the inner foam core is a highly resilient foamed inert resin. It allows Neocork to maintain pressure against the neck of the bottle over a long period of time. The outer surface is a more elastic material that is resistant to cuts and wrinkles caused by standard cork insertion machinery. Working like a gasket, it forms a smooth seal with the bottle wall, allowing easy extraction and reinsertion.
